The Slow Food movement has its origins in the 1980s in Italy. In reaction to McDonald’s plans to build a franchise near the Piazza di Spagna in Rome in 1986, Carlo Petrini held a demonstration in which he and others brandished bowls of penne as weapons of protest.
Following the demonstration, Carlo founded the International Slow Food Movement which runs counter to the fast food, fast life, non-sustainable food production and the eroding of local economies. This movement has continued to grow and is spreading around the world. One of the key tenets of Slow Food is the belief in the right to pleasure. Tantra and pleasure certainly go together, In Tantra we practice being present and connecting to our senses. Food can activate all of them, sight, smell, taste, touch and even sound. The Slow Food Movement and Tantra make prefect dinner companions. Bon Appetite!
