Some Additional Thoughts on Being a "Transformational" Artist

----- The Arc of Transformational Art to Come -----

As someone who has been creatively wired all my life, I agree with most of Chia's views. The only one I have only a perceptual difference is that so-called visionary or transformational art shouldn't or can't be "commercial."

My view is that we simply haven't yet collectively moved up the expanding spiral of consciousness to where soul and commerce can be more fully mutually fused. Fear and excitement sell better so far. However there are certainly some exceptions in art, music and even in film.

----- Art as Translucent Grace, Artist as One Prism -----

As far as the creative process as someone who leans towards creating this kind of transformational art, what I have observed over decades is that it acts as a doorway through which I access a lens of consciousness (or inspiration) beyond the perceptual realm of my usual personality or ego.

This even though one of my current central canvases are sensuality, nudity and even depiction of arousal. That is, I have a "soul-sensual" visual style sometimes called Tantric by some.

But irregardless of subject matter, this doorway is like accessing a sort of wide-angle space of translucent grace (or Grace) where the most inclusive, compassionate and beautiful perceptions and intentions soar beyond any dogma, be it old or new age.

And therefore, even though I am choosing to go there, it is not "my" art, I'm simply tapping into the potential for "that kind of art." This simply because as with everything, the best one can offer is the perceptual expression through one soul's particular prism, not Truth/Love/Etc.

Any human field of endeavor can only approximate these as one is choosing to perceive or experience it. Nothing more, nothing less.

So I can be grateful for the experience and expression and take credit for its implementation--as well as enjoy the blissful sensuality that creating this kind of work can bring. But however intimate and personal, it has to point to some form of this translucence.

Otherwise it's just art for art's sake, which for me is not the whole picture or purpose of artistic expression. I prefer "art for Heart's sake."

----- Beyond Transcendence and Fear-Based Perceptions -----

Likewise, if an artist thinks that his or her art serves some "higher mission"-- meaning it is of such importance that it must be shared to save this world from its errant ways, well, guess what? That's just another form of ego/fear-based self-importance.

And perhaps that's why Chia is partially right in stating that transformational art should not have a commercial purpose and hence it is not wide-spread. One needs a high-rev ego or need for personality-based recognition to hustle one's art.

This differs from simply sharing it with those of potential like-mind/hearted-ness without expectations (as I am doing via links below).

Besides, as long as we are incarnate in seemingly separate bodies, etc. there is no way to not have an ego. It's OK to have one and give it some kudos and kisses as long as it is tempered with some translucent, wider awareness also.

And it is perhaps this middle ground and paradox that will yield a wider market for transformational art:

-- The one beyond the polarities of too much spiritual transcendence/abstraction or dogma, and too much identification with the fear-based perceptions, thoughts, emotions of our human personality.

If so, transformational art will become more mainstream and be commercially profitable. Not because of a need to be hustled, but simply because it will blossom in its own Tao in more receptive collective soil.

The softer, richer and more Grace-filled soil of who we all really are at our core.

----- Thou Art Art (No, It's Not a Typo) -----

All the above withstanding, there is no need to wait until that breakthrough happens:

-- One can get glimpses of Truth/Love/Etc. peek in places and ways that may be anything but so-called spiritual or artistic or transformational. How one sees anything determines its transformational value, be it a billboard, blade of grass or however you enjoy and give your own body, sensually or otherwise.

Or to paraphrase David Deida, "A kind-hearted hedonist radiates more Love than a miserable monk."

Another perhaps more demure yet also slightly outside-the-box way to put it is: "Moralities, ethics, laws, customs, beliefs, doctrines - these are of trifling import. All that matters is that the miraculous become the norm." (Henry Miller)

And to clarify what I'm referring to as "miraculous" through the above quotation, let's end with ...
